In the heart of the Plateau Mont-Royal, on Saint-Denis Street, is a former presbytery that is now transformed into a multidisciplinary contemporary art center. The Livart, which occupies the premises formerly occupied by the sanctuary of the Rosary and Saint-Jude, opened its doors in 2016, following 3 years of renovations to give the premises their current form. <\/span><\/p>\n

An architectural project by La SHED<\/strong><\/h4>\n

For Cindy Tessier Trudeau and Marc O’Brien-Miro, founders of the center, it was important to preserve the building and its history. The original presbytery, dating from 1930, was therefore transformed to accommodate a new vocation while respecting the building’s heritage.<\/span><\/p>\n

In order to preserve the historical richness of the presbytery and reduce costs, the architects at La SHED, the firm mandated for the project, opted to reuse several elements already in place.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The heating system, as well as the floors, woodwork, plaster and heaters were therefore preserved, resulting in a magnificent finished product that brilliantly combines history and contemporary design.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Unique works of art to purchase\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

As an art school, exhibition center, resident artist studio and event hall, the Livart provides a venue for activities that promote art to all types of audiences.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Livart also recently opened its online store, where exclusive works of art can be purchased. There are drawings, illustrations, silkscreens, limited edition prints and a framing service.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
