From its most famous avenue, to its mountain overlooking the city, to its small businesses, embark on a journey through the history of the Plateau, one of the most lively neighbourhoods in Montreal.

Plateau : Un quartier en effervescence

Popular with families and students, the Plateau-Mont-Royal is one of the liveliest neighbourhoods in Montreal. This is one of the main reasons why our agency has been established there for over 20 years. It’s difficult to describe this borough in just a few lines, so much to do and discover. Day and night, the Plateau-Mont-Royal, surrounded by the Mile-End and Laurier, is in an ongoing effervescence and never sleeps, thanks to Mont-Royal Avenue, which comes alive twice in the summer. The street becomes pedestrian, giving a perfect blend of shopping, culture, music, art and poetry.

It’ s a fact. You can’t get bored in this neighbourhood. If you come here just for a walk, you can admire its architecture with a distinct identity. The Plateau-Mont Royal, it is old buildings dating from the last century mixed with modernity, which adorn the smaller streets to perfection. The most famous ones are Drolet Street, renowned for its colourful houses, and Laval Avenue for its beautiful residences. And as for housing, many people are snatching up the atypical apartments of the Plateau, so much so that the district is a victim of its own popularity.

From Mont-Royal Avenue to the Belvedere

Mount Royal Avenue offers a multitude of shops to satisfy all tastes and desires. From grocery stores with bulk or organic products, small neighbourhood shops, traditional bakeries… Everything is there to please you and make you love the Plateau. In one day, you can treat yourself to flowers at the exit of the Mont-Royal metro station, go brunch at L’Avenue, have a hot drink at Café Névé, or shop at Farfelu, the masters of original decorating.

What also makes the Plateau so charming is the mountain that dominates the city: Mount Royal. Accessible by car, bus or on foot, the mountain is worth the trip. Once you arrive at the Belvédère Camilien-Houde, it is possible to have a breathtaking panoramic view of Montreal.

Bars, cafés, parks, theatres…

The list is long! On Saint-Denis Street, there are many restaurants with a casual and warm atmosphere. Le Plateau offers Montrealers a palette of incredible flavours: Indian, Italian, French, Greek, West Indian… there’s something for everyone’s taste buds.

Saint-Denis Street is not lacking in theatres to entertain, and trendy places to enjoy a cocktail or to dance until dawn: L’Escogriff, la Rockette, le Clébard, le Belmont…The restaurant l’Express and its tempting menu or the Avenue famous for its brunch, you will have a wide array of choices!

On the natural side, the Plateau is rather well represented. Thanks to Jeanne-Mance or Parc Lafontaine Parks, everyone can enjoy the sun and barbecues in the summer, and skating rinks or walks among the trees in the winter.

In short, this epic and unique neighbourhood will never cease to amaze you, and trust us, you’ll never get bored!
